Cool Houston Slang Dictionary

I know many people (if not most) live in Houston or have a relative/ friend living in Houston. I got this e-mail thought it was so funny and so true about the slang that is used around Houston. This post is long, but well worth the read. Can you add any? If you are not in Houston, what are some common slang used in your area?

(interjection)
A statement in agreement or confirmation. Short for 'You already know'.

Ball-clutch:
(verb)
To stroke someone's ego, brown-nose, kiss-ass, big-up. To endow someone with extremely excessive, sometimes unwarrented praise.
related: Ball-clutchin, ball-clutcher

Ballin in da mix:
(phrase)
A typical response to what it do (salutory) meaning I'm 'holdin' or doing fine. It encompasses the entire aura of one that is being productive (emotionally, financially, and socially), as well as having a good time on the 'scene'.

Bang:
(noun)
Bass from a sound system.
related: boom, thump, knock

Big Body:
(noun)
Any large vehicle (a little less than a SLAB even though the two can be used interchangeably).

Blue Lens:
(noun)
Refers to Xenon High Intensity Discharge headlights often found on higher end automobiles.

Boppin:
(verb)
The act of an individual, typically female, oogling at someone's car, clothes, status, jewelry, or other superfluous accoutrements. A cousin to gold diggin and ball clutchin.
related: bopper, bop

Bout Dat Action:
(phrase)
Refers to an individual that is ready to engage in intimate physical activites with another person (hopefully of the opposite sex).

Breakin boyz off:
(phrase)
Means to out-do someone else on some level, typically with respect to vehicle.

Brown Laws:
(noun)
Sheriffs, Constables, or State Troopers, named for their brown uniforms.

Buck:
(noun)
Leather in your car.
related: sitting on buck

Candy Paint:
(noun)
A custom paint job on a car that utilizes numerous coats of pearlescence that resembles the look of a blow-pop or other hard candy.
related: also known simply as 'candy'

Choppaz:
(noun)
Rims that look like knife edges, also known as blades.

Chose:
(verb, descriptive)
Picked or selected in the context of male/female interaction and hollin'.
Usage ex: "I see ole girl, she looks like she wants to get chose" (She want to be holla'd at).

Chromey thangs:
(noun)
Chrome rims.
related: swangas, fours, thangs

Chunk deuce:
(verb)
To throw up the peace sign.

Come down: (Pronounced: 'come dahn')
(verb)
To dress up or get fly.

Come through: (Pronounced: 'come thoo')
(verb)
To stop by.

Crunk:
(adjective)
Live, exciting, fun, wild.
related: 'It's goin down'

Cuffin':
(verb)
Describes men or women that latch on to a woman or man to try and monopolize her or his time.
related: Short for 'hand cuffin'

Daytons:
(noun)
A type of rim that has multi-spokes (usually 50 or more).
Related: 'elbows'

Elbows:
(noun)
The protruding attachment that came factory on 83-84 Cadillacs, this addition is still placed on the center of wire wheels (Daytons a.k.a. 84s) also can be used to generically describe Daytons.

Fallin from the sky:
(phrase)
Describes mobile video monitors that are mounted to the ceilings of the car and drop down.

Feel me:
(phrase)
It is a rhetorical request for someone to understand where you are coming from or understand your ideas or thoughts on a certain topic.

Fifth Wheel:
(noun)
Another wheel attached to the rear of the vehicle, typically seen on older model vehicles such as Buicks, Cadillacs, and Oldsmobiles.

Flossin:
(verb)
Showing off

Fours: (pronounced 'foh's')
(noun)
Short for 84s as in 84 spoke rims.
related: daytons, elbows

Gallo, The :
(noun)
The Galleria.

Galvo:
(noun)
Galveston.

Glasshouse:
(noun)
No tint in the car.

Go hard:
(phrase)
Statement of praise in reference to the diligence or intesity of an event, action, or object.
(Ed. note -- That 7-series go hard huh, Dre? )

Grill:
(noun)
1. gold or platinum teeth in the oral cavity
2. a different grill (either Billet or mesh) to replace the O.E.M. grill on vehicle. Popular on SUVs and Cadillac sedans.
Note: becoming more popular as the floss scene merges with the racer scene.
3. To mean mug.

Grippin Grain:
(phrase)
Refers to woodgrain steering wheels, factory or Momo.

Holdin:
(verb, descriptive)
Describes something that is "throwed". Short for 'holding it down'.
Usage ex: "That Benz is Holdin." (That mercedes is attractive.)

Hold Up Tho!:
(interjection)
A statement of excitement.

Hulled out:
(phrase)
To encounter hardships, or be made lessor.
related: 'assed out'

(phrase)
A statement in agreement on the crunkness of an event that will take place in the future.

To stare at somebody with malicious intent.

Move Around:
(phrase)
To go on to other things. To leave old business behind (job, women/men, a bad atmosphere, etc).

Driving a Navigator

Nickel, The:
(noun)
The Fifth Ward area of Houston.

Nowem talkin bouwt?: (Know what I am talking about?)
(phrase)
A popular phrase masked in the most regional Texan dialect. Similar to Nowem Sayin

(noun)
Money.
related: fetti, fetto, paper, ends, cheese

Parking lot pimpin:
(verb)
To drive around or park in the parking lot of a venue (a club or concert usually) and loiter while engaging in the cohersion of women. Women can parking lot pimp as well.

Peep game tho:
(interjection)
Request for the recognition of certain actions or statements.

Peepin:
(verb)
Expressing interest (visually) in someone of the opposite sex.

Piece-and-chain:
(noun)
A long rope chain with a medallion (the piece) attached to the end.

Plex:
(noun)
Problems between individuals.
related: beef

Pop roof:
(verb, noun)
1. To open a sunroof or retract a convertible top.
2. The mechanism that opens a sunroof or retracts a convertible top.

Pop trunk:
(verb, noun)
1. To open the trunk of a car using an automated mechanism.
2. To go to the trunk and get a weapon of some sort to handle some plex.
3. The mechanism that opens and closes the trunk of a vehicle to expose its contents (usually sound system with lights and neon-lighted text).

Post-up:
(verb)
To loiter, or wait on

Driving an import car, typically a high end European model.

The vehicle has several monitors installed.

Simpin':
(verb)
The antithesis of pimpin. To allow yourself to be used for financial gain by someone while you spend inordinate amounts of money or time in the early stages of hollin' or dating.

SLAB:
(noun)
Slow Loud And Bangin. A large vehicle that has all of the flossin accoutrements (bang, rims, screens).

Smash:
(verb)
1. To engage in sexual intercourse.
2. To handily out-do someone (related: breakin boyz off)

Spinners:
(noun)
The trendy Davin wheel that has two pieces, one of which spins independently of the other.
**(Note: there are a lot of spinners with adaptors that are fake. If the spinner does not fit flush with the rim, it's a fake)**
related: don't stoppaz, Sprewell's

Sprayed wet:
(verb)
To get your car candy-painted.

Talkin down:
(verb)
Derogatory speech aimed at another individual or another individual's posessions, friend/family, actions, usually one-uppers or haters.
related: T.D.S. (Talking Down Syndrome)

Thangs:
(noun)
Chrome rims.
related: chromey thangs, fours, swangas

Third Coast:
(noun)
The Gulf Coast states: Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the panhandle of Florida.

Throw up the deuce:
(verb)
see: 'chunk deuce'

Throwed (also pronounced thoed):
(verb, descriptive)
Context is key in its usage
1. Something aestetically pleasing to the eye (female, car, any other object or action)
2. Intoxicated via liquor or other substances.
3. Crazy or strange as in 'throwed off'.
related: 'to get throwed' referring to getting drunk.

Tre, The:
(noun)
The Third Ward area of southeast Houston.

1. A greeting.
2. A question asked for clarification on an issue.
related: 'what's the deal'

What's tha deal?:
(phrase)
1.A question asked to determine the current state of affairs or gain clarification.
2. A greeting.

Wreck:
(verb)
To perform in such a fashion that far exceeds normal expectations.
Usage ex: "Lil' Keke wrecked that beat"

Yea, I remember "What tha deaaalll?", Big body Benzes, and things that are "throwed off"...lol

Most of the slangs on ur list is used here in the Bay Area. Besides, Paul Wall and Mike Jones popularized those "houston" slangs nationwide.

Here are some from Bayarea

Hyphy= goin' crazy, high energy, gettin' crunk...if you will

Tap= to have sex w/ someone else's significant other

Bananas(yellow outside, white inside)=refers to Asian American chics that dates only white guys

Stunnas=Big sun glasses

Ford Taurus=refers to a police car in the ghetto

yadamean?= you understand? Do you know what I mean?

Bubblin'=Acting "care free" especially when high on drugs
